I Taste Inflation in My Reese’s Egg

April 17, 2014

I love chocolate. I love peanut butter. I really love chocolate and peanut butter. So I get angry when the size of my Reese’s egg shrinks! Here is my Reeese egg this year. Notice its .6 ounces.

This shrinking size is the result of inflation, the real definition. Inflation has come to be known as a rise in prices. This definition is false. Moreover, it’s a lie. The true classical meaning of inflation is an increase in the money supply. Rising prices is just one possible consequence of inflation.

The real evil is not rising prices but a destruction of money through an increasing supply. Real money is a commonly desired good chosen by the market to exchange other goods in a market filled with billions of unique individuals. The government’s manipulation of the supply of money distorts the market. One consequence can be rising prices as the amount of money increases relative to amount of available goods. Our politicians and their paid economists want you to think inflation is rising prices because it’s easier to hide, discount, and blame others for rising prices caused by the real act of evil, manipulating money. One of the ways to deal with the consequence of inflation (the increase in the money supply) is to shrink the size of products rather than increase prices. And thus, there is no ‘inflation’ according to our overlord.
